This parasite wood carving is lovingly hand made by artisans in Bali. The main part of the carving comes from the wood of the Chinaberry tree.
This tree, in particular, can play host to a parasitic plant, a little like mistletoe, that attaches itself to the bark of the tree and takes nourishment from the tree sap.
The tree bark then grows around the root of the plant whilst the parasitic plant is attached, producing so-called “wood roses”. The presence of the parasitic plant can damage, and even kill the host tree so the parasitic plants are removed, often saving the tree. The “wood roses” are removed and carved into a wide range of different forms.
As each piece of parasite wood is natural each item will differ slightly in shape and size but to us the amazing part of this is you are guaranteed a truly unique one-off piece!
